Juvederm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Dr. Seiler uses Juvéderm® injectable gel under the
skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).
With Juvederm® the injection process takes only about 15-30 minutes and results are immediate. Plus, there's minimal recovery or downtime. So you can step into the office for treatment and step right back into your life!
In the US, Juvederm™ injectable gel is indicated for injection into the mid-to-deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds) and is generally well tolerated. The most commonly reported side effects are temporary injection-site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. Exposure of the treated area to excessive sun and extreme cold weather should be minimized until any initial swelling and redness have resolved. If laser treatment, chemical peel, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered after treatment with Juvederm™ injectable gel, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.

Tell me about Juvederm and where it's used

Juvederm is the dermal filler that I use. I have experience with many different fillers but Juvederm is definitely my favorite. The main reason why I like it is because people get a great cosmetic result and typically do not feel the product in their skin in areas of their face, their lips, their cheeks, under their eyes. My patients are very happy with it. I do a lot of filler procedures and get a good result with it. You can definitely fill lines and wrinkles with it but I try to focus on what I call “facial revolumizing” which is looking at the patient's face as a whole. A mistake that is commonly made by novice filler users is that they go right to injecting the lines versus looking at what's causing the lines. So many of my patients come in for common areas such as the area under the eyes called the “tear trough” and for cheeks or “smile lines” and I end up injecting in other areas also to decrease what is causing the wrinkle or fold. An example of this is if a patient comes in and wants the “smile lines” around the mouth filled, many times I will also inject in the upper cheek to give them a cheek lift and even in the jawline and they get a much better result than if I were to inject just in the fold.
Is Juvederm safe?

YES! Juvederm is very safe. It is one of if not the most common dermal filler used in the US. I have a lot of experience with it. The best thing about it is that the product itself is hyaluronic acid which the body produces as its natural moisturizer. It is extremely rare for any reaction to occur. I do not have problems with it. It is very forgiving, and if the patient doesn’t like it (which is extremely rare), then there is an enzyme that can be injected into the area to quickly dissolve it. I love using Juvederm and so do my patients!
What is the difference between Juvederm and other fillers?

One of the main competitors is Restylane which does not give as good of a fill and does not last anywhere near as long as Juvederm. There are a couple of fillers that are considered longer-lasting or even permanent but they are more complicated, risky, and can sometimes be felt by the patient. I simply like Juvederm because you can’t feel it in the skin, it has a great safety profile, I have a lot of experience with it, and it last 6-12 months or even longer. Although there are a few other fillers that claim better longevity, there are many reasons not to use them like I have just mentioned.
What type of result can you achieve by using Botox and Juvederm together?

An increasingly popular procedure I perform is the Liquid Facelift that uses Botox and Juvederm. 2-3 areas are treated with Botox (forehead, between eyes, crow’s feet) which helps to decrease lines/wrinkles and to lift the brows. The filler is used to volumize the cheeks, under the eyes, the smile lines (nasolabial folds), in the lips, chin/jawline. This is a great procedure with minimal downtime. It is relatively painless because of the dental blocks I do (which are very easy for the patient to tolerate). Patients barely feel anything. They get a better look to their face, it helps to enhance their cheeks and fill lines and volume loss. Many times, people who are considering a facelift or laser treatment can actually get a great result with this procedure when they thought they needed something more aggessive.
